Carats in Moissanites Explained
Carats are an important factor to consider when choosing your forever ring. The more carats, the bigger the stone and the higher the price. And while most people think of carats as an indicator of the visual size of a stone, the term carat (commonly abbreviated to ct) is actually a measurement of weight rather than dimensions.
As they are different gemstones, Moissanites and diamonds don’t weigh the same. An oval diamond measuring 9x7mm doesn’t weigh the same as an oval Moissanite measuring 9x7mm. This is why we utilise millimetre dimensions and ‘carat equivalent’ for our Moissanite engagement rings.
‘Carat equivalent’ is the visual size appearance of the Moissanite dimensions based on the diamond carat (weight) equivalent. For example, a Moissanite Company ‘2ct’ Moissanite will visually appear the same as a 2ct diamond, even though they don’t weigh the same.
Choosing a Moissanite engagement ring allows you to have your dream carat size, without the price tag. Moissanite is laboratory made, meaning the costs associated with larger carat sizes are in reasonable increments. Comparatively, the price of diamonds rises steeply as the carat size of the stone increases.
